The issue is not always with communication. You often don’t *precisely* know what you want to build until you do your first pass implementation. For those problems, speccing is rather close to implementing a v1 in amount of effort. Also why agile-like methods are well liked.

What is it about the act of building that informs you to as to what it is you want to build though, I mean beyond technical considerations. It seems like we should be able to do the same things with mockups, but it doesn't work as well.

It's rare to find folks who can do that _and_ understand the underlying system to the point where they can turn around with a dev team and have useful conversations about what/why/how.

Is it maybe related to the lack of communication training in schools? Or do you think it's intrinsic in the talents people have?

I specifically think it’s deficiency in group decisioning that gives rise to this behavior. MVPs are easier than building a model of the market from group consensus.

So the implication is that if you just put someone in full charge you should be able to fight this

I think our ability to conceptualize and imagine even moderately complex systems without having a mock-up is poor. Our language for discussing systems is also often poor. No body is sure of what they want, but everyone has an opinion on what they don't like when they see it...

I’ve found people are much better content editors than content creators. Up until something concrete is available for people to comment and discuss, it seems a lot of people don’t have the direction, focus, or interest to get it off the ground.
