If I hook two trains together I want that connection to be secure, not come apart on turns. What I don't want is a train car B that only works between cars A and C. If 'joining' and 'braiding' don't seem substantially different ideas then couple/complect won't resonate either.

I guess I just don't see why it would be confusing to say that you want your train cars to be loosely-coupled. I can see the big difference between the two types of coupling in your example. I don't need different words.
