Thanks for this. I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude towards you, @puredanger and @cognitect. I may not always agree with the development process, but the prerogative on how to run it is yours alone. It's a shame that's making contributors leave, but #clojure will move on

Well, at least I could have spelled your name correctly - sorry! (fixed)

Re: community engagement, I find it hard to imagine one could do better than
@puredanger. Something I love about Clojure is *anyone* can get expert advice in many public forums, often instantly and always for free. “Alex Miller is extremely attentive [...]” can’t be overstated.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

As usual Rich simplifies things by disentangling them: Open Source != Community-Developed. Period. Like it or not, it's still true.
-
That might be true, but the history is backwards. Community-driven development is older and one reason open-source exists is to protect and promote it.

"If you have expectations (of others) that aren't being met..." => just pay for it, open source is not equal free labor

I would have welcomed this, otherwise legitimate, message some time ago (years). Obviously, my perception of the risk of adopting
#clojure would have been different and, quite probably, the time I spent learning it would have been better invested in something else. -
Quoting: "Alex Miller is extremely attentive to and engaged with the
#clojure community." "This is time taken away from earning a living." I would say this is an (also legit) investment on marketing. Investments are (normally) undertaken under the expectation of future profits.
