While comparing the history of post-WW2 V-2 rocket tests in the US vs. the Soviet Union, it became apparent that our testing program had a surprising number of catastrophic failures, even years after WW2.

told a story about the opposite idea taking place. Apparently, some systems sent false signals to the Soviets about a preemptive US launch, but they realized the error and didn’t retaliate. So, we have something stopping V-2’s and something encouraging nukes.
