It's GL centric for sure, but GL has one nice property with their enums, they don't change ever. So it's good way of serializing format. Unlike .dds all formats that ever existed in GL or will exist in the future as long as GL gets them are supported by .ktx.
Yeah, that's nice. But it's already clunky with ASTC, where you need to map the enum to (width, height). I don't know what the future holds for compression formats. Maybe we're already using as much GPU area as is reasonable just to decode ASTC?
