Game devs need to understand that their skills and abilities can take them far outside of the game industry.

I agree with you Rich, game devs skills could could be used in much more lucrative industries and many don't realise it. But I'd still prefer that instead, the games industry changes so that it becomes as lucrative for employees as other industries.

Yes, that would be the ideal thing. But as long as there are fresh college grads willing to work for peanuts crunching away, it isn't gonna happen. Game devs need to push back, realize their "art" isn't making them any money, and move on to fields that actually value their work.
