Central planning doesn't work well, but market principles do. So if enough employees go and form a team to do something, a smart self-organized company will watch the team grow organically and see what happens.
These are my theories. I know that “The List” gets sent around before a purge and key Barons/Sponsors can add names of folks to be fired. If their purge immunity is too low they’re gone. But what triggers a purge is a mystery to me.

What if one of the reasons is to keep "Anxiety" levels up? To be honest I am not quite clear what you mean by "Anxiety" but as far as I understood it is the "fear of being fired". What if without constant "purges" workers would become lazy?

Yes, random purges will absolutely bump up the anxiety levels across the firm. Anxiety is just that - fear/worry/doubt/etc.

Workers definitely worry a lot about being fired. They don’t want to have a black mark on their resume, or lose income etc. Workers with millions in options risk losing it.

Lazy workers can be given a heads up and temporarily supervised by someone to help get them back on track. Random purges are brutal measures- I can’t see that being used to solve laziness issues.

So random pudges happen way to often from your experience? Huh... That is weird indeed. Have you ever seen a company that had way to few purges (from your opinion)? It would be nice to know if they have any peculiarities about them.

Yes. Ensemble Studios had zero random or even scheduled purges and was incredibly stable. Very low turnover. A magical place.

Would still love to hear your propositions regarding the Bonuses (if you have any). You seem to constantly criticize them yet sometimes reluctantly agreeing on their benefits. Have you seen a self-organizing corp where Bonuses were made the "right" way? What was it like?

The large bonuses (equal/exceeding your salary) can be *incredibly* distorting to a company. I'm very much against them. Small bonuses (fraction of salary) are fine in my experience and are far less damaging.
