This claim is false. Until emissions stop completely (not merely decline), CO2 will continue to build up in the atmosphere. It's like saying that there's no risk of your bathtub overflowing because you've turned the taps down a tiny bit. You actually have to turn the taps OFF! twitter.com/ShellenbergerM

Michael showed the graph of CO2 emissions, but the actual impact on climate comes from CO2 *concentrations* (the amount actually in the atmosphere) CO2 concentrations have continued to increase even though emissions have not risen over the last decade keelingcurve.ucsd.edu

The rise in CO2 concentrations has already caused significant warming (over 1C). Maintaining current emissions levels would cause global warming of roughly around 3C which would have very severe consequences - even exceeding 1.5C will have major impacts ipcc.ch/sr15/chapter/c
