      5. Few if any surprises on the list, perhaps Indianapolis & Columbus. Columbus has OSU, state capitol & huge creative class. Indy has dynamic economic development leadership as laid out in The New Localism ... Also provide geographic diversity to the short list.

      6. My original shortlist. Top 3 DC, Toronto & Chicago. My 2nd tier: Dallas, Atlanta, Twin Cities, Denver, Boston, Philly ...My sleepers: Detroit as well as some less well served airport locations like Pittsburgh, Nashville and Austin. I later added NY: https://storify.com/richard_florida/my-take-on-amazon-hq2 …

      10. Amazon has narrowed the list. But it has detailed information on sites in 218 additional communities, highly detailed information on thousands of sites for warehouses, logistics facilities, distribution, offices etc etc.

      11. The 20 finalists would be well-served by making a pact to NO INCENTIVES. These mayors and economic professionals know one another & can do it. One of a number of professional organizations could sponsor.

          13. More than anything else, the #amazonHQ2 shortlist reinforces the overwhelming reality of winner-take-all urbanism. These are 20 big winners in the new economy. Also reflective of Newark's long-run locational upside.

I think a no-incentives pact is a great idea, Richard. Unfortunately, it’s probably going to turn into a nauseatingly ugly bidding war akin to an NFL team trying to extract a shiny new stadium from communities.

Agree on incentives. The 20 must also jointly require Amazon real estate development and operations to be carbon neutral. Please let’s not forget looming climatastrophe.

Combine “Which city ticks the most boxes?” with “Which city would benefit the most from Amazon’s presence?” and you get Newark. No other city has Newark’s infrastructure and location combined with such a weak economy.

What is Newark's tech employee, data center and Internet infrastructure like? Ashburn, VA area gives them the best-class of all of that, plus Dulles International.

Tax incentives for moving businesses from one part of the country to another should be banned. They're subsidies, paid for by the residents of the state, and only go to big companies and their shareholders. It's a corporate entitlement.

Amazon should be picking the new site on an AREA that would benefit from having it....not what an area GIVES to Amazon
