I had the privilege to take part of shooting the Sky At Night program at BBC. What a lovely evening it was. Tune in for the January episode (as well), we'll be talking about urban astronomy and !

If launches tonight, NW Europe might see the Centaur upper stage deorbit burn around 21:10 UT (23:10 CEST, 22:10 BST), located over the UK east coast, just as it comes out of Earth shadow. (HT to for noting the sighting opportunity, map below by me)

Starlinks from this morning's launch (group 2-1) will pass over SE England just after 19.55BST (14th), moving NW to SE. The sky will be bright but the train of 51 spacecraft may be visible. From the SW of England the sky may just be too bright, Starlinks will be low in the NE.

Transporter-1 Starlinks (Jan 2021) had the baseplate extension (and the lasers), but no equipment relocation. Suggests solar panels have increased in size and needed more space on baseplate, hence the relocation. Bigger solar panels may make them brighter in the sky? 2/2

Some very rough analysis of the new Starlink 1.5 design, as launched this morning. The two images of stacks during launch (old and today's) show a new extension of the baseplate, with attitude control equipment which has been moved from the other side of the baseplate 1/2

Another sighting of Nauka in the south-west sky this evening, 5 minutes after the Space Station. Still noticeable lower than the Space Station, but due to arrive tomorrow. A last potential view of the two close together Thursday at 22:13BST, but weather forecast is poor.

Nauka module really bright from SW England tonight at 22:58BST, magnitude -1 or -2, certainly brighter than Vega. Rather yellow in colour, probably the colour of the solar array material.

For those following the flight of Russian Nauka module to the Space Station, tonight's (Sunday) pass over southern UK is predicted to start at 22:57BST. Elevation will be 56° in the south from Cornwall, only 35° from (cloudy) London. Roscosmos seem to have solved the problems!

For those following flight of Russian Nauka module to the Space Station, tonight's (Saturday) pass over the southern UK is predicted to start at 22:18BST. Roscosmos has stated that a manoeuvre has happened today, so it will be a few minutes late, most likely. The ISS is far away

If the Nauka module raises orbit again today, if may be a minute or so later. The Proton rocket upper stage is now 19 minutes ahead of the Nauka module, so is out of the way. 2/2

For those following the launch of the Russian Nauka module to the Space Station, tonight's (Friday) pass over the southern UK starts at 22:08BST, path is over Cardiff and London. The Space Station itself is running just 3 minutes ahead of Nauka tonight, and is much brighter 1/2

Roscosmos report that Nauka has achieved a small propulsion system test, so may be a minute or so late at the pass over southern England this evening.

The height of Nauka is only 200km at the moment, so moves across the sky much faster than the ISS would do (over twice as high). If Nauka starts to raise orbit today, it may be a little later. Last night Nauka and rocket stage were easy naked eye objects, even in a bright sky 2/2

For those following the launch of the Russian Nauka module to the Space Station, tonight's (Thursday) pass over the southern UK is Proton rocket upper stage at 21:59BST and Nauka itself 4 minutes later. The Space Station is the other side of Earth, so won't confuse the view 1/2

Today Russia launched its large Nauka module to the International Space Station (ISS). It will be 2 minutes behind the ISS at the 22:01BST pass over southern England tonight (Wednesday), from the west. Quite what will be seen I do not know! The sky will be rather bright still.

The 2nd stage and two lines of Starlinks were visible from my location, but the sky to the west was still very bright. There were good views of the gas cloud from further south-east in Europe where it was darker.
