KARNA META Ok so we all know that Karna got fuckt up with a shit ass life, but in this thread I'll be talking about why, specifically, he got a fuckt up life, and also how it relates to the themes of the Mahabharata, from which he originates

DISCLAIMER #1: I'm only like halfway through the Mahabheyaheyahey so, although I know what happens in the rest, I may get some details wrong and I apologize if thats the case DISCLAIMER #2: This will be talking more about Myth Karna and less about Fate Karna because nasu-

To start off, we need to talk about the concept of dharma, which plays a BIG role in the M. Dharma is similar to karma, but there are subtle differences- basically, dharma is the sort of morality/guidelines/goals by which you live, and karma is caused by the steps you take to-

      - follow it. Dharma differs between classes, families, periods in life and individuals. For example, a king's dharma is to lead, to make a wealthy society, and to kill his enemies. A priest or merchant doing those things would be going against their own dharma, which is bad.

Dharma is often very subtle and difficult to parse, which is one of the themes of the M: that it's hard to know what the right thing to do is. This links to Karna because his own dharma is fantastically confused, and basically his whole life is spent going against dharma

Context: Karna was born to an unmarried princess, Kunti, who was given the ability to birth any god's child. Basically, Karna was her tester baby- after he was born, she floated him down a river in a basket, had her virginity restored by the gods, and pretended he never happened.

She then went on to mother the 5 Pandava brothers, aka Arjuna + his siblings, aka the protags of the M. ANYWAYS on Karna's side, he was raised by a charioteer, meaning that he had a mixed dharma from birth- born from a god but raised as lower class. He always wanted more than-

      - his lot in life, but in his case, that wasn't his dharma, meaning that p much everything he did was 'against the rules'. Remember, even his birth was against dharma. This manifests in a number of ways, and he ends up being cursed multiple times- each time for acting against-

-his own dharma. It wasn't just limited to curses- karna was basically a lonely incel who allied himself with A Literal Cunt because the cunt was the only guy who wanted to be his friend. You could argue that it's shitty luck- however, luck doesn't exist. Theres only the fallout-

-of your actions, which are either right or wrong by dharma's standards. And oh boy, karna fucked up a lot. As we all know, this ended in his death- all of his curses and bad karma came together to bite him in the ass at a crucial moment, and he was decapitated by his brother.

What is interesting about dharma is that you can still be a good person and do the wrong thing. The M goes on and on about how good Karna is, and how noble, etc, etc. However, his dharma was confused from the beginning- and because of that, his actions were almost always 'wrong'

That's probably why he's a villain and the pandava brothers are the protags; though they had similar roles in the conflict, the pandava brothers, led by the eldest, yudistira, always followed the laws of dharma, and were therefore victorious

This is further proven by the fact that yudistira was literally the incarnation of the god of Dharma. Gods had a heavy role to play in the M- karna and the 5 brothers were incarnation of various gods, and the P.brothers were aided by Krishna, who is Literally The Creator.

GOING BACK TO HIS MOM FOR A HOT SECOND: its like Really Really bad for an unmarried girl to have kids, which is why she was all hush hush. She only had the pandava brothers after she was married to the king Pandu. So yeah even karnas birth was an act against ones own dharma.

It's shown that she loves him, and recognizes him- however, unveiling him as her son would make things even worse, and might make the upcoming civil war even messier. So yeah, dharma is a bitch

ANYWAYS. karna is a good kid but his life got fucked bc even tho he did good things, he didnt do Things That Were Right For Him (which is the cautionary tale of the M tbh) i might go into how this is linked to his fate portrayal but i dont wanna. anyways. i love him.pic.twitter.com/uU9MAOMhLC
