This hurt me very deeply, and I also was not allowed to publish a response. Dr Tovey-Walsh highlights here how hard it is as minority scholar, particularly a Black woman one, to stand up to a big bad professor and I am certainly feeling that.https://twitter.com/LinguaCelta/status/1292794582757978112 …

Update - it’s been posted now, along with some other cross emails, thank you so much for your support, don’t think he would have changed his mind for just me. I still don’t apparently warrant the dignity of a response but we move! https://dhhumanist.org/volume/34/224/

As a second-time PhD scholar, I really feel the privilege I gain from the title "Dr." - I don't try to hide that I'm a grad student again (long story; back in academia after a decade away, and moving disciplines), but ppl see "Dr." and I can tell that some treat me differently.

It's also absolutely plain that being white gives me another advantage. It's enraging that change is happening so slowly, and that it is still so hard for scholars of colour to be taken seriously and treated with respect.
