Gil, I understand that point of view but I completely disagree with it. In fact I think it disrespects the character of Luke by treating him not as a true mythic hero overcoming recurring wounds & flaws, but as a video game character who has achieved a binary, permanent power-up.
2 years later and they still won’t shut up about it. How do you put up with this?

Rian I wish they would have just given you the three movies. I love that you didn't do a cookie cuter this is good this is bad let's just remake the original. You're work is edgy and bold and I'm sorry the "fans" hate you. Also, knives out was fantastic.
I don’t see making a movie with the intent to subvert expectations as bold. TLJ has some very similar plot points to the OT and it’s characters are just unlikable.
I relate more to depressed Luke than the Luke in "God Mode" the fanboys wanted. If you make Luke a perfect spiritual guide,you have every generic mentor since 1977. Glad Luke wasn´t Cypher Raige.
Did you even see TLJ? Luke was not depressed, Luke was ANGRY and bitter. A depressed Luke would break down in tears and drop his lightsaber when Rey handed to him. (Have you notice Luke never cried during Rey's visit?) Throwing it off a cliff is the action of an angry man.
I get not engaging with a lot of 'criticisms' on here and I think TLJ speaks entirely for itself...buuuuut at the same time I would genuinely love to hear you shoot down these points blatantly all the time.
