I've made an animation showing the apparent retrograde motion of Mars seen from Earth and the old model of epicycles. I simplified the orbits as circles. Maybe if I have enough time I'll make a more accurate version with elliptical orbits.

So when we send electricity through a pickle, the electrons in the sodium atoms get excited and we get that familiar yellow light. This thread was brought to you by , or Any Excuse Is A Good Excuse To Destroy Something In Our Lab Day.

Pickles are soaked in salt water, so they are jam-packed with sodium. When you heat up sodium, the electrons around the nucleus get excited and they jump up to higher energy levels. As they drop back down, they release that energy as a photon.
