Back in 2005 or so at the height of WoW, Guild Wars, Eve, etc, I had an idea for an MMO FPS. Not fortnite/pubg, but something more along the lines of Battlefield 1942, Halo, or UT in a massive constant world like a WoW server to give a real-time, FPS simulation of actual war.

The technology probably still isn't there to pull it off decently though, but imagine something like a World War II game where the map is the entire western front with 10s to
s of thousands of players 24/7 and spawn points shifting with the movement or the front, etc. -
Add in day/night and changing seasons/weather and it could be freaking incredible, doubly so if you could build bases and fortifications, etc, Minecraft-style.

You are pretty much describing WW2 Online which actually came out early 2000s.
