the problem with the 'skyking' stuff is theres no tacit acknowledgement that this was ultimately a comic and pathetic act, if heroic in its own way

the act itslef was anachronistic; hijacking a plane and flying into the sun is kind of a cargo culted reenactment of what someone from the early-mid 20th century would do as an act of 'radical freedom'

planes are flown by computers now, theres no romanticism to the pilots life or the sky in general, the mechanics of the experience are so well replicated by vidya gaymes that the guy could fly the plane perfectly well

I think this comes from everyone wanting to be like Mishima now. They’re too complacent to attempt anything even close to what he did though so this provided an opportunity for them to project their desires onto it and live vicariously.
