I think both are going to happen. But the app platform has to be unified. This is the start. I think the iPad is picking up Mac stuff along the way too.

Unification, so far, has meant "lowest common denominator." Ex: iOS doesn't support multiple windows, so macOS News lets you read hundreds of magazines and sources…in one window. Argh! If they don't take advantage of what the Mac offers, iOS ports will continue to be abysmal.
-
Obviously, I'm hoping to hear about some great Marzipan improvements, if not publicly Monday then in the non-public sessions later. Though I'm not expecting great strides in taking advantage of macOS' features, I do hope I'm wrong.

It's not so difficult to develop a "touch" MacBook Pro …
-
But it is very difficult to develop a good “touch” experience and UI on a laptop, as Microsoft’s efforts have proven again and again.
-
And yet all the people I know with Windows 10 touch enabled laptop screens use them while I have to context switch when I have my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro sitting next to each other on my desk. It’s time to better align these two worlds.
-
I’m all about evolution but I hope the upcoming “alignment” will not be at the cost of sacrificing the richness and power of Mac’s UX/UI. Context is the key word, here.
-
I am a worried about the fate of the Mac. The "alignment" is for marketing purpose because if customers see that the same apps and games are available also on the Mac maybe they are more interested about buying it. But I don't think it is what Mac platform and users need

I think we'll definitely see them meet in the middle. I think we can expect more "making iOS more like a mac" things in iOS 13, and even more in iOS 14. At least for iPads. I think putting USB-C on the iPad Pro was a predictive, enabling gesture toward future software plans.

I think once people bring iPad apps to the Mac they will expect more features on these apps which will in turn help the iPad ecosystem.
