Rosenstein: —sought to “assure the president he was on his team” —“told the president he would make sure Trump was treated fairly” —“I give the investigation credibility.” “I can land the plane,” Rod told Trump, in words of official offering their characterization of the callhttps://twitter.com/jdawsey1/status/1121859589870424065 …

As plenty have been saying, including myself - Rosenstein was another life-long Republican in a full line of life-long Republicans running an investigation into a Republican President. Democrats made a huge mistake by trusting any Republican involved in this.
-
Oh, did we have a choice?
-
No choice in who was leading the investigation but yes, the choice was made by many Dems to believe that these Republicans were going to be fair and honest arbiters. We are seeing this breaking down in real time and we'll see where Mueller himself ends up.

I thought that deep down RR was a good man, someone who sought justice above all else. Sadly, once again I have misplaced my faith. Many of us put our hopes behind (what we thought was) his integrity, only to learn we were being naive.

I’m sorry (no I’m not), but RR is a POS

-
It's a cautionary tale for Dems looking for saviors among the GOP.

I'm no fan of Rosenstein but too much is being made of him telling Trump that he was on his team. That's what everyone is basically obligated to tell this narcissist if they want him to listen.

I have know what RR is for quite some time & pointed it out a few weeks ago.pic.twitter.com/Q3gPSgaMaW

Exactly. I've long suspected Rosenstein may have blocked Mueller from issuing Trump a subpoena, and these new stories certainly support it:https://twitter.com/JamesDissent/status/1110656938541568001 …
-
All the reporting around the subpoena issue suggested that "Justice Department Officials" deliberated for months with Mueller about subpoena. I suspect that was Rosenstein humming, hawing, and footdragging and then finally blocking any subpoena:https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1110168203383074818 …

But if there was an actual disagreement btw RR & M on issuing a subpoena to T, that would had to be reported to Congress per the SC regs. Perhaps, RR just convinced M not to subpoena T = no disagreement = no report to Congress
-
You could be right (re convincing him no subpoena needed), but there would be no disagreement reported if Mueller kept the discussions informal. He could've forced the issue, but being a chain-of-command guy, doubt he would, esp as he needed RR's support on probe overall.
-
A real flaw w the Special Counsel Regs. Easily undermined w POTUS willing to literally do anything to obstruct, and weak senior officials like Rosenstein, unwilling to stand their ground or resign on principle. There is no Ruckelshaus or Richardson in this story, sadly for us.

Think same may be said about Comey and his errors. Let’s note in both cases errors occurred trying to appease an increasingly hostile

Considering that it was Rosenstein who got and independent counsel to look into the Russia interference, what’s the problem with him doing everything in his power, including groveling before Trump, to stay and be the firewall and protect Mueller from being fired?

The demise of the reputation of RR demonstrates that appeasement is not a viable option, which leaves acquiescence or impeachment. Time to put up or shut up.

@SpeakerPelosi still doesn’t realize where we are — ie: R was Mueller’s boss, & *this, this WAPO story puts Mueller Report, including *supposed decision to compel testimony & subpoena Trump/Jared/Ivanka/Jr not worth paper it was written on — then nothing will.#ImpeachmentNOWधन्यवाद. आपली टाइमलाइन अधिक चांगली करण्याकरिता Twitter याचा वापर करेल. पूर्ववत् करापूर्ववत् करा

This explains Barr's 48 hour report dismissing Mueller's 2 year report. Rosenstein was right behind Barr. In more ways than one.
