roxane gay’s Tweets

I will say it again. My tweets are not meant to be universal. They will not nor cannot account for every reality. If something I say doesn’t include or apply to you that doesn’t invalidate your truth.

This Netflix household thing is ridiculous and confusing. Just tell me how much I need to pay to have my parents on my account. I do not have the energy to teach them a new way of accessing Netflix.

No actual gay person wanted her raggedy ass website anyway. Fraudulent case and fraudulent court tbh.

It’s annoying, at best, to see the networks bragging about their Emmy nominations while refusing to negotiate fairly with the writers who made those nominations possible. The sheer nerve of it all. There are no shows without writers.

This is a weird take on surrogacy which families use for any number of reasons some of which are problematic. Does this apply to queer couples? People with fertility issues? Or only couples you don’t like?

I may or may not write about the supreme court decision re: affirmative action but I do hope journalists reach out to white women before anyone else as they are the primary beneficiaries of such policies.

I’m old enough to remember when Pat Robertson said they Haitians were responsible for the 2010 earthquake because they made a devil pact for freedom. It’s sweet that he died during Pride.

The thing about today’s decision is that you’re still not going to get into an Ivy. That’s something we should talk about loudly.

Nothing screams success like announcing a rebrand of a major social media property on a Sunday in late July.

Ahh yes. Pour one out for all the young lasses who can’t date racists in peace. I don’t care about the woman’s bfs but the obsession with infantilizing an adult woman who made $700 million last year is intriguing.

The poor girl just wanted to bang a dirtbag before settling down like the rest of us in their late 20s/early 30s and no one would let her do it in peace. Sad twitter.com/PopBase/status…

People have the strangest notions. I had a letter in Work Friend this week from a 78-year-old on the job market and a bunch of people have emailed me asking why a 78-year old is looking for work. Like... why do you think???

Today it has been 2 years since my beloved brother Joel died. It was way too soon and he is missed and loved deeply, every single day. We all came to Florida to go to mass and celebrate him exactly the way he would have wanted, extravagantly.

This Titanic thing is so bizarre. The original ship took out hella wealthy people (and crew and other passengers). Why would rich people treat it as a tourist destination???

The cost of movies is ridiculous. IMAX tickets are $25 each. We got two popcorns, a glass of wine and a soda for $50 which is optional, of course but exhortbitant. It’s fine if you can afford it but it’s a stretch for many! Do y’all with kids take like one at a time or….

Also, I live in two cities. Do I have to pay for two separate accounts for that? I know they're trying to make money and so on, but most people aren't trying to get over, we just live different lives.

It’s always interesting to see who sits around waiting to share their dislike for a popular figure only when the cultural tides have turned. If you have a sassy little opinion, say it with your whole chest without what you deem safe cover.

In all seriousness, social progress terrifies people who realize they have slightly less power and influence than they are used to. They will do anything to undo progress and put the people they deem inferior back in their place. Bad news for them is we aren’t going anywhere.

So they should do it for free? People’s bodies shouldn’t be treated like they’re for sale but in consensual surrogacy without exploitation or pressure compensation is very appropriate. Pregnancy sucks even when you want to do it.

The most frustrating thing about The Idol is that there is an interesting story to be told about a pop star who is being exploited by everyone who should be protecting her because their financial success is tied to hers. They shoulda left this show in Amy Seimetz’s hands.

LOL. How did The Idol make it to the airwaves? It’s comically bad. Ejaculatory and vapid. They clearly think it’s subversive but it isn’t! It’s boring! Lily Rose Depp is interesting and it’s a shame she wasn’t given better material.
