I'm seriously pondering the use of intense, blinding, flash photography to document traumatic situations. In the end, that might be just about individual tastes (I've never been fan of that aesthetic) but I'm bothered by it when it's used in certain circumstances.

I completely agree. I do not use it. It is light based assault on people who are vulnerable.

Not at all crazy. A rare few photographers use it well. Most of what I see is gimmicky, to give ‘umph’ to otherwise mediocre work. To use it in sensitive situations seems abusive to me
