I truly do not see the point in spending so much time/effort entering photo contests that are primarily designed to showcase work involving violence/war/crisis, etc when my own work is much more daily in scope...change my mind??

I’ve stopped entering a few years back because of how much anxiety it was giving me. It helped a lot. Maybe not for everyone but at least reducing the number of contests entered might be the nice middle ground.

yeah and so many cost $$$ and unless you work for a place that will cover that...i’d rather buy myself a nice pair of kicks

As for the thoughtful nuanced daily work you mentioned- Even without awards it doesn’t go unnoticed. My favorite photographers (May, Chambers, yourself included) are the ones who make their community the prize.
