"Funny" story: when I was a VP at Adobe in 2012, Flash was still alive ... but only a $50m business (out of $4b+) Still, it was a constant distraction in every conversation And took 100s and 100s of engineers to maintain Get rid of those distractions

Become a better communicator overnight: - Replace every “but” you can with an “and” - Never start a sentence with “no” or “disagree” - Only give feedback if there’s a chance it will be implemented - Tell people you will be late before you are late - Bias to overcommunicating

So, my abstraction is that for some things in life we should be ready to the first impact, considering that we have the necessary means to increase production as needed.

It seems that the army only need to be ready and prepared for the first hour of war, also known as the first impact, considering that as soon as a war strikes, a sleeping war industry will wake up and start a full steam production of ammo, weapons and tools.

The thing is that it's true. And the reason it's quite logical.

Yo, ! I’m reading your superthinking book, and just came up with a mental model myself. I'm calling it the first hour war rule. Let me explain:

When someone that you know is smart and reasonable has an idea that sounds crazy, that's usually a good bet.

A good way to be unsure about something is to ask for one more opinion. More opinions often lead to indecision, not clarity. If necessary, ask for a few, add your own, make a call, and move on. Nearly all decisions are temporary, but stalling is permanent time lost.

Something I taught my 10 yo: If you're naturally competitive, instead of spreading a thin layer of it across all of life, pile it up in a few specific areas and just relax in the rest.

No one does everything well. You are not an exception. Focus on your one superpower and be excellent at that, and the universe will take care of the rest.

The most important success factor in your work is who you choose to work with. This has been more important to my success than having the right idea, the right resources, or anything else. Having the right people around you is the difference between success and failure.
