SpriteStack is a voxel editor suited for 2D artists. Featuring my unique retro renderer which outputs spritesheets and slices. There is also an experimental animation support and MagicaVoxel in/out. Buy or Try -> Retweet please :)

So my current approach to using sprites is rotating everything, including the camera, and selecting the sprite depending on that rotation angle. It already looks decent, and I can even use an offset to pretend diversity of similar objects (like the trees)...

righto lads, here's the master-proof sprite for the Mark IV. However, I'm not sure how to animate the treads, anyone got any ideas for how animate in ? (hi-def is top row).

To ease your curiosity - I am exploring sphere object that I need to fill the joints as SpriteStack doesn't support skinning and this can lead to ugly gaps where moving parts of the model are touching. I did that for and it works pretty well.

Rendering a real sphere instead of voxels in is pretty dope.

This will make it into as a feature at some point. Not very polished example but it will allow for submerging stuff in water or disappear behind invisible surface. Model by

    My shader programming routine: x = x * 1.0; It doesn't work. x = -1.0 * x; It doesn't work. x = 1.0 - x; It doesn't work x = (x + 1.0) * 0.5; It doesn't work x = (x - 0.5) * 2.0; BOOM 👍

I call it a 'mode' because when you are looking from top down angle the Z axis is locked while dragging stuff around.

Some extra cue if you are in vertical or horizontal mode in - the subtle background changes according to the camera angle. Voxel model by

My other conclusion is that we need a brain receptor that will provide a 3rd dimension to the mouse. As in when you want to transform a point in 3D you have some expectations where it will go - and these expectations contain the third axis.

After 3 months of experimenting with variety of previously unseen methods to rotate stuff in 3D I conclude that there is no convenient and intuitive way to transform 3D stuff with a 2D pointer. I am staying with traditional gizmos and locking rotation to one axis at a time.

Does your 3d animation software support onion skinning? Because is going to :)
