The short answer: no. There are cults who “worship” rock stars. Mother Earth. Alien life. Cults don’t have to be religious. They just have to believe in the same whatever-it-is they believe in, which is typically outside the norm.

The slightly good news here (https://www.prri.org/research/american-religious-landscape-christian-religiously-unaffiliated/ …) is that the percentage of the population self-identifying as white evangelicals is declining rapidly, which probably accounts for the percentage of them supporting Trump being higher than supporting Bush.

I go to a very liberal church, and the number of "recovering" Evangelicals who've joined over the last 10 yrs is amazing. What white evangelicals have left are the hardcore folks who don't question the huge disconnect between the words of Jesus vs. the words of their pastors.

Reza, i’m not sure if it qualifies as a cult but it definitely is a dark, detrimental mindset for any human being to be. Perhaps it is so, that his followers believe anything he does or says or suggests! In that case, yes it is cult worthy!

I have no interest in the video. I'm not a Trump spporter-nor do I support Reza Aslan as he continuously calls himself a Scholar of Religion. He has PhD in Sociology. Although he has an MTS (masters of theological studies) where there is a number of areas of focus.

Also, his Masters in Theology is from Harvard. What degrees do you hold?

I have no degree in biblical studies or theology but what degree I have or don't have CV has nothing to do with the fact that Reza Aslan lies about being a "scholar of religion"
