Let me understand this- The students at #Parkland are NOT old enough to organize & demand change, 14 states that allow for marriage as early as the age of 12 as approved by states issuing "martial licenses" Huh?

How is it morally okay for "Right" to put their (literal) stamp of approval on marriage licenses for children while endorsing this and NOT morallying or ethically reprehensible? Yet, a couple who are #LGBTQ is denied marriage licenses b/c that goes against beliefs...

This is horrifying. How can this be?!?

This has always been the law here, which men wrote, decades ago. It’s rooted in the archaic idea that women and children are property of men (and therefore subject to men’s whims). Too many of our laws - on rape, consent, abuse, child custody - grow from this ill, inhumane idea.

These tenants - still embedded in much of our legal code - are why #MeToo stories are so prevalent, why perpetrators of sexual violence are almost never held accountable, therefore allowed to flourish. This is especially egregious re child sexual abuse law, esp when within family

It is our job, as thinking civilized adults, to reform this legal code in every state. To speak w our legislators & support bills which protect children from abuse. Children cannot reform it. This is the next work of the burgeoning women’s mvmt - legal reform for women & children

It's also essential to understanding any discussion about women's reproductive rights. Any government, in legislating away a woman's right to make medical decisions about her own body, presumes lawful ownership of that body. Owning people is the literal definition of slavery.
