I don’t like all the disrespect towards the flag here. Soldiers at time of war risk their lives to recover the flag. So show some respect people.

It's not so much the flag most disrespect, it's the almost cult-like reverence of a symbol. By all means honour what it represents, but don't idolise the item itself.

The flag is an extension of what it represents.They are one of the same thing. Besides why do you people insist on disrespecting something that others are sensitive to? May be you don’t get it but don’t disrespect the people who view the flag as sacred. You just don’t get it.

You're right, I don't. If history teaches us anything it's that blind patriotism and viewing any symbol as sacred without question is extremely dangerous. And pointing this out is not disrespecting the boy. My all means respect but don't idolise any symbol without question.

That argument is valid when made in reference to people/parties or different idealism i.e. when people follow a leader blindly or a party or say capitalism is the best system. The flag is different. It represents a country in whole, all of its leaders, parties and ideologies.

According to the rules I learned as a kid, if the flag already touched the ground it has to be taken to an official location (sometimes City Hall) to be burned.
