it doesn't even have to be a religion class. I once had a Christian student who boycotted my lit class because it was "atheistic"

and this was just because I told him not to preach in class. For that he boycotted me for an entire semester

Religious dogma inspires that "We're right you're wrong" when in fact all of them are wrong, but also right to some degree.

I had the opposite happen to me. Ordained Lutheran minister teaching class on world religion. Was just history of the church lol

but of course his attitude isn't the issue, its the professors. Which is backward.
