Looking at it w/a Modern lens. Before showers and indoor plumbing, ppl covered their hair(turbans,jilbabs) to keep the dust out/1

since they took off headgear inside, it became assoc. with home life, privacy, modesty. It became taboo to go outside w/out one/2

it's anachronistic to talk about clothing just as a morality issue, with no reference to the environment, insects, disease, etc.

it seems to me to be more of a cultural thing rather than religious.

As a Muslim I am anti-Hijab. From my understanding it was only meant for Mohammed's wives

never seen my friends wearing one in india. Can't fathom why a geographical based object is appropriated to an entire religion.
