A whopping 68% of White Evangelicals say America has no responsibility to house refugees fleeing famine and war. That’s 25% over the national average! This not a theological issue. Bible couldn’t be clearer on this issue. This is pure, unadulterated, nativistism and racism. QED
Note also that Trump’s evangelical support is almost wholly White. 81% of WHITE Evangelicals voted for Trump; 68% of Evangelicals of color voted for Hillary. These are folks who share the same theology but just have a different skin tone. Let’s not pretend this isn’t about race.
There are literally hundreds of millions who are malnourished or living with war. Yes, wealthy countries like the U.S. should assist. It's the humane thing to do. But, it's wrong-minded to say the U.S. has an obligation to house every refugee. Bad hyperbole.
We have a moral and legal responsibility to offer asylum to those who need it. Those times we have failed have been consequential. We turned away Anne Frank.
And so, we have a legal obligation to allow hundreds of millions into the U.S. if they chose to come, because they live in malnourishment or with war? Can you direct me to the statute. Seriously, I'm curious and will read it.

At least with the nazis, they’re open and honest about their racism. The white evangelicals are the worst. Using Jesus to cover for their racism is revolting & heartbreaking.

They also cherry-picked the Old Testament. Exodus 22:21, Deuteronomy 10:19 - it's like they never even read them.
I left the Southern Baptist church 30 years ago as a late teen because of the blatant classism, sexism, and racism in the church which bore no resemblance to Jesus. This is nothing new. The hypocrisy is just so much more obvious now.
So we just refer to Evangelicals as White Nationalists. Got it.

Most white evangelical churches stopped teaching the Bible decades ago. They teach mostly hatred that is not borne out from any writing. The Bible focuses on helping the poor and desperate. Preachers focus on controlling women, keeping down gays, and maintaining the status quo.
Reason why I left the church
Years ago a good friend - evangelical but still an honest man - walked in on a Samhain ritual in my back yard, which included most of our social circle, all of us Wicca. When he recovered his blown mind, all he could get out was: "Damn. All the best Christians I know... aren't."
