It’s a fair point that it is lawful to object to removal by seeking asylum status. And there is no reason to detain asylum seekers per se. But it is also true that many people who enter are economic migrants, not refugees seeking political asylum.
-
That's exactly correct. Liberals and Dems make a weak argument when they make it on the backs of the tiny percentage of asylum seekers. The vast proportion of immigrants are economic migrants. And to ignore that elephant in the room is facetious & counter productive.

I agree.

Bret is really going to hate hearing that I'm an in-debt native Spanish-speaker who was born here and pays taxes, huh?

Where's the article about "real Americans" who don't feel part of America because of Trump and the GOP?

What is international law on seeking asylum? I read the first country one escapes to. If so, that would be Mexico before the US. The refugee claim is not true really, is it, if we are honest?

90% of asylum claims are rejected. They’re economic migrants fleeing societies they’ve contributed to failing. Most disappear into the US anyway, which is exactly what you want. Don’t dissemble, just admit it.

The columnist put his angry, xenophobic inner dialogue on paper and parades it as an informed opinion piece. Crazy.

You should know better. Many people who ask for asylum are not genuine asylum seekers. They only come here for pure economic reasons.

If they illegally crossed the border AND THEN asked for asylum, then they’re breaking the law. Also, many of these asylum requests are simply fraudulent. The reason they don’t show up for their hearings is that they’re economic migrants, not legitimate refugees.

They are illegal if they don’t do it at a port of entry. Which a lot of them have avoided.
