No. No one knows who they were but "Matthew" was written around 80-90 AD, and "John" around 90-110 AD, two or three generations after Jesus died in 33 AD.

Mark was the first Gospel written in AD 60. Wouldn't it possible for Mark to have an opportunity to see Jesus in person. Mark's mom was one of the followers of Jesus. The last supper and the prayer of Jesus are thought to have taken place in the properties owned by Mark's family.
