(THREAD) Peter’s experience has spurred me to share mine. 2 weeks ago, as I was crossing back into Israel from Jordan, I was separated from my family and detained by Shin Bet. “We can make it so you don’t see your kids for a long time” I was warned. This is what happened nexthttps://twitter.com/PeterBeinart/status/1029057994762248192 …

My mother was quite pro-Israel until she visited and had to go through a checkpoint with a Palestinian woman she had become friendly with. She came back with a different perspective, to say the least.
-
The funny and great part is that a vast majority of those visiting Palestine ends up supporting the Palestinian cause.

Jeez. Can't imagine how horrific these interrogations are for Palestinians if this is how they treat a well known journalist
-
Well if you ever get to hear their stories you will be horrified

This is very bad. I've been detained at the US border for 5 hrs, coming back from Canada. My then husband and five small children sat outside in a a camper. I was held for 5 hours because the computers were down. My bad. Did not have my green card with me. Yours is far worse.
-
Just by the by, I almost never go to Canada now because it's a hassle crossing the border back into the US, even with my passport and Green Card.
-
I'm thinking that the police state moniker is starting to apply in too many places. And here, seizing the children from their parents, 'to go shower' and other really nasty actions is keeping me very focused on what is happening here, and elsewhere.

This why I’m a HUGE supporter of
#BDS. I will never buy anything made in Israel. Israel has been turned into a Fascist state for Palestinians in the Occupied Territories, and now is being turned into an Apartheid state. Another reason you’ll never see me setting foot there.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Even when confronted with the truth, and in response to the Jews returning to homeland in in times and just before Armageddon, evangelicals frequently say that God can use an evil regime to attain his ends as easily as a good one. 1/2
-
So Evangelicals don’t care how many murders as long as they get their rapture and Armageddon. It is for this reason I ceased going to Christian churches. I don’t believe in a God that cheers a regime that perpetrates Armageddon & apartheid for its own evil ends.

A very distressing experience. No matter how good the person or organization, power without transparency and accountability will become tyranny. It natural. It's the easier path. It's human nature.

Yes, the US' system is messed up too. It's sometimes easier to see other people's hypocrisy than our own, but we should try to acknowledge both.

Because it is a personal story about the single country they experienced it in. Why include a dozen countries he was not detained in?

Oh please. You are whining about a person who told a personal story. It sounds petty at best. Stop projecting that you are not as famous as you want or as rich.
