With the exception of African slaves imported here and Native people already here, most American are refugees dumped here or fleeing some oppression. As a result, the mythology that our democratic capitalism is a meritocracy based on effort and not a mediocrity based on class.

Ah that's the myth Americans have been sold so they don't revolt when the guy in the mansion gets a big fat tax cut. They think someday that tax cut will be for them.
