When you're used to privilege, equality feels like oppression. Textbook example of that in action right now in this country.

Yes, because then they'd be the same as everybody else and they want to be special and feel important.

To be historically accurate, white people in America never had a commitment to democracy for marginalized people (cf. all of U.S. history and history of colonization of North America).

Research studies say that when you don't study history you keep thinking that America is a democracy.

Absolutely! You read some actual history and literature, and you realise America has been acting completely anti-democratic in its policies, particularly with its foreign policy, over the last century, if not beyond that.

Foreign policy was never meant to be guided by democratic principles. That would be insane to take a vote from all the countries in the world and let the outcome determine foreign policy.

My point is it is paradoxical of the US to claim to be enforcing democracy in the world, when in actuality it has perpetuated some of the worst crimes. That is what I meant by being anti-democratic - not in line with justice, liberty, freedom, choice.

I don't think I've ever felt such sorrow and disappointment in our government, and the officials that could make a difference by simply speaking up, or doing what they know is the right thing to do, to at least bring about change in the gov. How do they sleep at night?

The march to the authoritarian has been ongoing and the stealing of an election to stack the courts is insuring it. We should have taken to the streets long ago.

Intolerant white people fear everything, and everything they do is motivated by their fears. They arm themselves, embrace religious fundamentalism, and vote for demagogues, because all these strategies feel safer than seeking the knowledge that could actually assuage their fears.
