I am increasingly VERY worried about the issues that are silencing the trans community, often under the guise of protecting the same freedom, but for those who abuse it to promote hatred and violence against us. e.g. 1: e.g. 2: below.

After much deliberation, I have decided that I will not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct & subversion of the Constitution. None of this is normal, and I will not legitimize it. Consequently, I will not be attending the State of the Union.

A man who called a college student a slut for wanting access to birth control was awarded the highest honor by a man who has openly bragged about assaulting women.

Crucially, the groups of people concerned are not [people with penises] / [people with vaginas], nor even [cis men] / [everyone else] but [rapists and abusers] / [survivors of rape and/or abuse]. Anatomy is irrelevant here. It’s about who is or isn’t a violent shithead (4/4)

If there were more resources, we could have separate spaces for each individual in (eg) a shelter. There aren’t. So fight for more resources, not to keep other women out of the space. (3/4)

It’s so completely awful and wrong that so many people experience sexual violence. It’s so completely awful and wrong that there’s such a shortage of facilities and resources for people escaping/survivors of SA/DV. But excluding a group who needs access doesn’t fix that (2/4)

Solidarity and intersectionality is hard. But, as one of the large majority of trans women who have experienced sexual violence, at the hands of both cis men AND women btw, Ros is spot on. (1/4) TW theoretical discussion of sexual violence and domestic violence, trauma etc.

So I kinda just want to touch on something today Big BIG TW for sexual violence and abuse and rape But I've been seeing a lot of t*er*fs use PTSD as an excuse to keep trans women out of spaces that cis women would like to keep exclusive to cis women.

Today in Examples of State Violence: until 1979, under successive Tory and Labour governments, male doctors carried out virginity tests on women migrating to the UK from South Asia. (Thx to ’s excellent but sobering ‘Hostile Environment’ for this disturbing fact)

For all the “grid will never cope” pearl-clutchers out there this is what UK electricity demand looks like every day. A 15 gigawatt fall in demand from mid evening till breakfast time every day, rain or shine. From midnight to 6am that’s 90 gigawatt hours of capacity going spare.

You cannot “correct” someone’s sexual orientation. You cannot “convert” someone’s gender identity. Any therapist (or person) who says otherwise is a dangerous charlatan. Keep them away from children!

Political leaders breaking the law - and revelling in it - is an essential precondition for the rise of fascism. These are extremely dangerous times. My column.

If identity politics were a powerful force in real politics most lgbtq+ people would absolutely buy into the "you gotta admit having a gay guy do well is impressive" defense of Pete Buttigieg, but it isn't so he gets to enjoy low polls & queers telling him to eat shit on twitter.
