Turns out the secret to a successful movie based on a video game is to use a video game that takes elements from existing movies already. Mortal Kombat being A Big Deal at the time didn't hurt, either.

It feels wrong watching a Paul WS Anderson movie that isn't a vehicle for his wife to look cool.
