Those "laws" have since been abolished. Which means the "crimes" would not be of such a serious nature to prevent his service to the US

I'm not so sure about that. For ex: lots of people in Colorado still have felonies on their records for marijuana possession.

I'm not saying his arrests should preclude him from anything, but if they are on his record, it could be a major hassle at times.
