We have a commitment from leadership and @RepMcGovern that #PAYGO will be waived and will NOT block progressive priorities in this session. Now, let’s work on repealing it entirely.

So you are proposing a bill to repeal a law that is practically the same as a rule you voted yes for? Why wouldn’t you just vote no on the rule as well? Why wouldn’t you fight for progressive policies at all levels?
-
voting against the rules package wouldn't have affected paygo at all, since it is already federal law and would need this bill to repeal. They voted for the rules package bc of other concessions given to the cpc that were only in the rules package.
-
Alternatively the cpc could have banded together and said no, preventing the rule. Still introduced this bill that will never pass the senate but would’ve shown the dem leadership that they need the cpc not the other way around. They have relinquished power for some assurances.
-
It really wouldn't have mattered either way. Paygo would still the law bc Republicans still hold the senate. And it's not just assurances, they actually got rules changes in the package that advantage them. Like getting rid of the 2/3rds rule for raising taxes
-
and a prohibition on congress members serving on corporate boards. And the ability to introduce bills with 290 cosponsors without the speaker, and automatically raising the debt ceiling.
-
Senate will not agree to raising taxes Unless on the poor and middle-class Congress members can still buy and sell stock of corporations. the 290 would mean all Dems + 55 GOP debt Ceiling will not change with paygo in place at all. I have doubts that any of this will be effective
-
>debt ceiling will not change with paygo That's literally incoherent >Senate will not agree to raising taxes Exactly, there's no point in voting against the rules package bc they won't agree >290 means all dems and 55 GOP ending the shutdown and DACA protection can get that many.
-
I get your point about the debt ceiling I need to do more research so I understand better. The point is to fight, to show your base you’re fighting. They didn’t stand up to Pelosi for speaker. The green energy committee is a joke now with Manchin on lead. When will they fight?

Wait, didn't you vote for it in the first place? Please explain. As far as I'm aware, only three of your colleagues voted against and tried to stop this from passing.
-
There’s a difference between the PAYGO rule & PAYGO law. PAYGO is federal law. Vox did an article with a pretty comprehensive description the other day.
-
This is a new bill to repeal 2010 legislation; it is different from the Rules Package ( included PayGo tho it could be waived) which 3 Dems voted against. It was an attempt to signal fiscal responsibility to Repubs.https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/1/3/18165261/paygo-house-democrats-progressives-medicare?fbclid=IwAR09FQBcBaFiD1ZJ3mbPoXcWJydPinxdVRxK4ApkYPFIZmcZ3fK2UkI3Gu4 …
-
Why? Why should Democrats 'signal' fiscal responsibility or anything to Repubs??? Who says so?? Pelosi? They were voted in to do the job the voters sent them to do, the hell will Republicans and 'virtue' signaling or any 'signals', that's an excuse, not an agenda.
-
Idk .... I think it means Dems will be the ones that are fiscally responsible and talk about our deficit to make Republicans look bad? when you get it send the memo I’m lost
-
They’ve been doing that for decades, showing themselves to be much more fiscally responsible than the Republicans, but the public doesn’t give a isht and it never stopped Republicans from calling them “tax and spend Democrats.”
-
That is one of the more maddening things, Doves. The evidence is clear but the Democratic Party has let the GOP get away with that line for a long time; they need to run on facts that prove the reverse and scream it from the mountaintops.
-
I am optimistic that
@RoKhanna is helping turn the discussion around. He is coming out with strong anti-austerity arguments. It's time for a bold, clear, authentically progressive economic vision from the Democratic party.

Um, excuse me?! Ok, fine, you introducing legislation to repeal the law completely is cool and all. I'm 100% in favor of repealing it. However, if you want to do that, why did you vote to pass the rules package with PayGo still in it? Also, this will never pass the Senate. GG

-
As usual no effing way to trust Democrats they prove that day after day.
#PayGo destroyed any respect you could have gained..Now we know how deceitful Dems are...when only 3 pple willing to vote NO on#PayGo#PayGoPelosi#demofrauds@USProgressives - 2 more replies
