With over 90% of Americans supporting expanded background checks to keep firearms out of the hands of bad actors, the American public has been very clear that they support #HR8.
Today, I was proud to join my House colleagues to pass this vital legislation on a bipartisan basis.

Congress must also take action to close the #CharlestonLoophole, which allows someone with a criminal background to buy a gun before their background check is completed.
This is what led to the murder of 9 innocent worshipers at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC.

Since 1998, the #CharlestonLoophole has put over 75,000 guns into the hands of prohibited gun owners. We can fix this loophole and prevent these weapons from falling into the wrong hands, which is why I was proud to support H.R. 1446.

These bills have nothing to do with taking guns away from responsible gun owners, which includes the vast majority of gun owners in America.
This is about taking common sense steps to protect our communities and keep weapons out of the hands of bad actors.

That’s why I was proud join the overwhelming number of Americans who support expanded background and vote for #HR8 and to close the #CharlestonLoophole. I will continue to push for my colleagues in the Senate to swiftly do the same .

Congress can't end gun violence. However, it is wonderful that efforts are being made to ensure gun ownership is regulated, no untraceable trade show sales etc, and can be monitored as a contribution to public safety.
