I read that Birch made several extended trips to OR in 1971 when he was gearing up to run for '72 Dem nomination; ended up not running beacuse his wife, Marvella, was diagnosed with cancer
My deepest condolences to the family of Senator Birch Bayh. Our first encounter was when I testified before Congress as a college student working to lower the voting age to 18. A selfless public servant & voter participation champion, he will be missed.
