While some states are doing the right thing, the fed. govt also has a duty to ensure we’re lifting American families out of poverty. That's why my Dem. colleagues & I have intro'd a bill today to increase the federal min. wage to $15/hr by 2024. #ForThePeople #RaisetheWage (2/2)

Raising wages without controlling the cost of living is not a long term solution. My 784 sq ft apartment cost ~$1300 per month. That's ridiculous. Then add lights, groceries etc.. and I have no money for savings or emergencies.

Here's a better idea, cap housing costs... without that, you can raise the wage to whatever you want and people will still be victim to higher housing costs... geez people
-
What you are witnessing is not just housing cost increases, but inflation on a whole. 2009 bank bail out injected a huge inflation of the USD supply cap. Nobody knows what value it is, however 3-5% annually for the last decade makes the dollar weaker. Everything costs more.

We must discuss greed in the financial sector, investors, share holders...the system can not go on this way...no matter how high we raise the minimum wage...costs will continue to rise. There is no Everlasting-Profit Gob-stopper!pic.twitter.com/TvkKTdahUq

Why does someone with bare minimum skills need a 2bedroom apartment? Much less smart phone, cable tv, & some alcohol/drugs/fancy car/tattoos. At that level I had roomates, rode bike, used library computer a landline phone/worked in a restaurant for meals till I worked up.

What the public is missing is a huge bullet point: Inflation. The minimum wage is static every damn time they change it, but living costs, in terms of dollars, rise 3% by design. Minimum wage needs a "$X.xx + 3%/yr" value, or at least a CPI increase. C'mon reps!

It is $10.75 in Oregon...$1,700/mo..only a handful in other states are at minimum. McDonald meal is also $8.00 vs $6.00 elsewhere

You know what is even harder than living off of minimum wage? Living off of no wages, which many government workers are now doing because you and your party refuse to fund a common sense wall. Please, just fund the wall and open the government
