"In reaction to the refugee centre attack, we now go live to Hard-Right Grifter [Insert Name], who says he warned us that this would happen, having worked tirelessly, for years, to make it happen." UGH. Here's an idea. Don't spread hate. ~AA

Extended Windfall Tax would bring in further ยฃ4bn, and end to non-dom status ยฃ3.2bn. You say youโ€™re making โ€˜difficultโ€™ decisions but if your default is always cuts, then thatโ€™s not difficult at all. To you itโ€™s easy. It doesnโ€™t HAVE to be cuts, if you look a little harder.

It doesnโ€™t HAVE to be cuts. Business Fraud costs ยฃ20bn a year. Go after that. Tech like Amazon / Google owe us ยฃ1bn a year. Go for them and backdate it. Name and shame the companies that cost us ยฃ9bn in useless PPE, or who defrauded Furlough Scheme by ยฃ4bn. (1/2)

Doesn't say much for Gove's previous career as a journalist if he doesn't think this is the kind of thing journalists are supposed to be doing. This is what Brexit has given us: even the supposedly-grown-up members of government think they shouldn't be beholden to the law.

275 people helped at the foodbank today, including over 100 children. Perfectly normal people, often in work, just not able to manage on poverty wages with rising prices. Utterly shaming for our country.

Context: the UKโ€™s institutions and British society are dominated by those who have attended fee-paying schools. For example, the new cabinet is 60%+ private school (vs 7% of population). Private schoolers remain significantly over-represented at Oxford and Cambridge themselves.

It's indefensible for the BBC to keep inviting Julia Hartley-Brewer onto #bbcqt: she's a climate-denier whose only credential is as a Murdoch mouthpiece & reliable clickbait. They donโ€™t invite flat-earthers on, so why climate-deniers? The BBC should do much better. >RT,to agree!

The politicians who removed legal aid from parents of terminally ill children, bereaved families and people accused of serious criminal offences are very much in favour of taxpayer-funded legal representation for themselves, ta very much.

All thatโ€™s really happening here is the playing field is being levelled a bit (not entirely!) I can understand if youโ€™re a head of a public school and trying to justify eye-watering fees that might be uncomfortable. But it isnโ€™t really a problem for everybody else.

When you dig down into these stories, theyโ€™re often pretty remarkable. Part of the irritation seems to be that so many state schoolers are now applying to top universities (which can only be unalloyed success) and that private schoolers are facing more competition (the cheek).

Elon Musk has a Tesla factory in China and he wants to sell more cars there, as many China observers note. What happens if Beijing leans on him about say, a Uyghur or Hong Kong activist account? Or about Chinese disinformation bots leveraging this platform?

And, surprise, surprise: economies full of people terrified they will not be able to pay the rent or mortgage, let alone keep the house warm or put food on the table, are cutting back their consumer spending, exactly as the central bankers want.

Reality of our ageing population: older voters block things younger voters need in order to work and pay taxes to fund things the older voters need. Older voters them complain young are entitled and should "work harder" like they did. MPs indulge them. Rinse and repeat.

PS remember the petrol gaffe? He filled up 'his' car (a car which it later turned out wasn't his at all) then clearly had no idea how to pay with a debit card. Now, absolutely right now, today, we need a leader who lives in this world, who understands everyday life, who gets it.
