A fascinating connection I never thought about before: The postal system was instrumental in the abolishment of slavery, due to its "anonymous" nature which made it impossible to discriminate between letters from/to slaves.

Yes. And for a long time letters in pro-slavery states were opened and censored. There are numerous academic articles on this.
