The only thing it’s a front for is statistical science for maximising the remain vote. Tentative recommendations so far have included 5 different remain parties according to region. All self-funded.

Everything depends on the algorithm and the polling methodology. “Garbage in, garbage out” is the oldest saying in computing. But of course we won’t be shown what’s under its statistical bonnet.

The broad lines. But it’s always the details that matter. “based on survey data of voting intentions.” OK, but what surveys? How designed? And what is the exact algorithm, for geeks to pore over? That bizarre all-Lib Dem map of England only creates suspicion that it’s a fix.

Tom. You are confusing us with some others. We have not published any recommendations yet. We have so far ingested most surveys. We took them down from the site last week as some people were confusing them with recommendations.

We have subsequently internally added or reviewed all of the polls we are aware of and will continue to do so. We are also conducting our own research and are confident that our data sets will be statistically robust at a regional level when we make a recommendation.

Those recommendations will be issued on a regional basis and will take into account the likely impact of d'Hondt and voting patterns. it's a simulation approach rather than a stats approach.
