Budgets reflect values. It’s mental health and healthcare:👩‍⚕️ It’s homes people can afford: 🏠 It’s good-paying jobs rooted in care:👷 We said it before. And we’ll keep saying it and fighting for it. If you haven’t signed up, do so today:

Through every step of this we need to continue our advocacy and hold them accountable to investing in a Care First Budget.

Implementation also includes public meetings where community stakeholders (YOU!) can provide input on Measure J implementation, and L.A. County Board of Supervisors meetings where you can provide public comment on the CEO’s proposed budget.

Implementation includes the creation of an advisory committee to help guide how L.A. County prioritizes housing, jail diversion, job training and other community resources in the budget. But it doesn’t end with the creation of the advisory committee.

It’s in implementation that we hold elected leaders and decision makers accountable to that investment.

So, what is implementation? 🤔 We all fought and voted to invest in care, not punishment; to allocate a minimum 10% of local unrestricted revenues to direct community support and alternatives to incarceration. [THREAD]

Our work didn’t end on November 3. Measure J passed, but now it’s time for the budget to be implemented by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. This will be another fight, + we’ll need to stay vigilant, stay active, + stay committed to care, not punishment. More to come.

There was so much pain this year. So much loss. But this is how I will choose to remember 2020. We organized. We marched. We fought. We Won.

For everyone who has donated as part of this campaign, thank you. Because of your commitment and generosity, Measure J passed. But the reality of running a grassroots campaign means that we are still funding our work.

Measure J will not mean these problems will go away. When it comes to truly achieving justice, equity, and opportunity for all, we are at the starting line not the checkered flag. We must stay committed, together, and vigilant.

Just this year, we have seen a lot that has made us lose faith in our laws and our leaders. We have seen Black people murdered without justice, a homelessness crisis get worse, and our most vulnerable get poorer and sicker during the pandemic.
