We ran over 70 (!) stories since launching in September. But we've been in journalism too long to believe merely telling a story changing much. In 2023, we want to begin campaigning, to hold both corporate and political actors to account. Help us:

Ayn Rand was the Jordan Peterson of her era; an intellectually mediocre figure who built fame and fortune by making rapacious white men feel just. It’s not a new or interesting approach to audience building. twitter.com/nateffo/status…

Ian Black was a real one: a MENA reporter as solid as they come, who took cub journos from the region seriously long before anyone else did. That alone made an impact on many in my generation of writers from Israel-Palestine, alongside so much of his work. He'll be missed. RIP.

Is it possible to be an ‘unconscious racist’? It’s a tricky term to digest. But if you cut through the linguistic gymnastics, the end result is simple: undermining the experiences of the players who reported John Yems, writes

It is the scene in the rear-view mirror that is truly horrifying. The British economy is in a generation-long slough of despond, a slow-burning economic catastrophe.

While we're on the subject of strikes, the anti-strikes bill is far worse than we thought. The "Minimum Services" bill is so vague it would allow any passing minister to force as many people into work as they please. /

Frankly, I prefer ex-combatants like Prince Harry to be upfront about having killed, over ex-soldiers hiding what they did behind "professional discretion" or "national security." We need more accountability, not less.

Katy works for me. She is single & earns less than 30k, rents a room for £775pcm in Central London, has student debt, £120 a month on travelling to work saves money every month, goes on foreign holidays & does not need to use a foodbank.
Katy makes my point really well.

This is a tremendous and important book. Everyone should read My Fourth Time, We Drowned. It will teach you a lot about some of the gross power imbalances in the world.

‘My Fourth Time, We Drowned’ makes the Easons bestsellers chart for the first time (that I know of). This is amazing to see. It’s been a huge challenge getting people to engage with the realities in this book. Thanks to everyone who has read/shared/told others about it.

Anti-trans activists must know they're spouting the same arguments long deployed against gay people - would-be sexual predators, threats to children, defiers of the laws of biology, etc etc
They just think: "This time it's justified!"
History will be the judge of that.

Until 1998, a point of order during a vote in the House of Commons could only be made while wearing a hat.
A collapsible opera top hat was kept with the doormen solely for this purpose, as seen worn by Tony Marlow in this clip from 1994.
