How is this not the federal government attempting to investigate speech it doesn’t like?

It's a civil rights investigation based on the admissions of the School's own president.

Princeton - "Hey we're racist and this racism is embedded in our institution." DOJ - "You are? We should probably take a look at that."

It’s an attempt to stop similar institutions making similar statements, not a sincere investigation into a problem the administration doesn’t believe exists.

“Trolling as federal policy”is fun and exciting I’m sure but in a world in which the federal government has large and sweeping powers it is less fun and exciting

A man walks into a police station - "Hey I murdered a guy." What should be the next steps?

The Department of Justice is not a police station, “basic things that are true” are not “murder,” the federal government shouldn’t have this kind of power in the first place, but other than that, sure.

It's an analogy of admission. You can change it from murder to larceny. I don't really care.

If the DOJ just launched this without cause you'd be 100% absolutely correct. They are launching a civil rights investigation because of Princeton's own comments. You don't have to like it, but it's their own fault.
