BTW the best place to report bugs is to this timeline (please use blog and JailbreakQA only for conceptual questions)

Please don't complain too loudly about how slow it takes :) The Win version uses filesystem instead of RAM: slow!
Since Apple still serves the 4.1 IPSW (not blobs!), we'll do a Windows redsn0w release for untethered 4.2.1 via Monte-4.1

Turns out the 4.1-blob version of Monte wasn't so hard :) http://is.gd/3yMmRb ... Next step: http://is.gd/Mexjh2

Ported Monte back to 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs). Next step: porting it forward to 4.3beta!

ok got all the info we need, thanks (and it looks like the best we can do is detect the situation, tell user they need to uninstall it)

Can any Mac/Win users with Wi-Fi Sync installed look at your process list, tweet (or DM) the actual name of the program running on Mac/Win

5
(Another example of how this beta program has been very helpful hunting these issues down. so thanks!)

The only solution in both cases is to uninstall Wi-Fi Sync first (as mentioned on the Wi-Fi Sync web page itself.

Thanks to all testers who noticed that Wi-Fi Sync breaks the JB Monte process the same way it breaks normal restores too

beta6 released, fixes Skype (see update #6 at http://is.gd/jmBeQ ). Next target: 4.1 Monte. Please don't pirate 4.2b3!

After tonight's beta6, the main focus will be porting Monte back to 4.1 (but also to make Windows version less painful)

@Beta_Acc0unt (the ibooks problem loading certain formats isn't at all sandbox related)
Replying to
@Beta_Acc0unt I think you'll find that the ibooks "bug" has always been there in every jailbreak. Gotta keep reloading the book til it works
1
hah it seems Skype is too clever for their own good with their loader! Upcoming beta6 fixes Skype anyway :)

@jkurtz87 it's not just a couple of minutes :( On a little old XP box with 2Ghz CPU and 1GB ram, it took 10 mins (!)
beta5 out, fixes Bluetooth (update #5 at http://is.gd/jmBeQ ). *Please* do not pirate the 4.2b3 IPSW! Devs only please!

beta4 is out (update #4 at http://is.gd/jmBeQ ) ..no longer need to run external usbmux relay! Mac-side changes only.

Replying to
@Beta_Acc0unt the unexpected benefit of the external usbmuxd requirement was that most of the feedback was very detailed and technical!
Replying to
@sucram6791 SysInfoPlus is in Cydia...would be nice to add syslog monitoring to that
Replying to
@sucram6791 agreed! There's a sysinfo app...would be nice to build a syslog monitor into something like that.
Replying to
@sucram6791 ah ok...it seems to be all over the chart! I think what would help would be an app that follows syslog messages
Replying to
@maciln44 yep! (but we'd prefer that any problem reports come from fresh restore + redsn0w only)
(Thanks to everyone for helping with this first ever beta program we've tried...your combined feedback has been great!)

Today's beta4 will eliminate separate usbmuxd process (so many more Mac users can use it). After that, expand to Windows.

The BiteSMS issue ended up being normal 4.2.1 JB issue. (So, those battery issues, please compare against tethered JB too).
12
2
(And it's important that we hear only from those who did fresh restore then beta3 and it worked first time through..else it's confusing :) )

(We're working on the problems related to the Mac program itself..but want to know if only thing left on iPhone side of it are BT+Skype)
10
To only those testers who actually did fresh restore then beta3 and it worked...is the only thing left Bluetooth & Skype? No other issues?

@kingkonggrebe ok cool :) btw which device are you on?
That beta3 we quietly put at http://is.gd/jmBeQ seems to fix all remaining app problems. Next up: embedding that usbmuxd!

beta2 is out (testers ONLY please!)...update #2 http://is.gd/jmBeQ . Only change is: all app crashes should be fixed

@66darkfire secondary purpose of this is to build up a solid base of people willing to test, rather than just use once :)

It's strange seeing a flurry of videos and tutorials...remember this is just a trial program, not a general release :)
