Yes we would like penalties to reflect the fact that driving is dangerous and requires 100% concentration 100% of the time. @drlukeevans I hope you’ll support this

Consider the objective- more resource is needed for policing so the risk of being caught is real. Secondly better laws to - the most obvious causes are speed (automatic penalties -as with drink) & phone use. Might be worth mentioning its a real crime to the judiciary.

What about the grooming gangs who aren’t even charged. The victims are damaged for life in some cases.

Great, let’s put more people in the already over populated prisons, and people wonder why prisons are failing.

Or, and I appreciate it's a huuuuge leap for most people, we could make the punishment for the crime of actually killing another person harsh enough that people might actually stop doing it?

Rather than wait to 12 points to ban drivers, ban drivers automatically for a short, sharp, shock at 6 points for a month. A month is enough to give a taste of what a years ban would be like without the hardship of losing their job. Don’t wait till they kill or injure for action

Prevention is needed more and this and any govt should be funding thousands of average speed cameras and 10 year retests (if fail you get three months to pass) . Then sentencing matters but even now death by dangerous driving rarely gets the max - local case man

Killed by a drug driver and gets just three years for destroying a family life ... that’s it and no life ban for driving
