Using this as a bargaining chip in future Brexit negotiations perhaps? A rather mercenary move, no? If it’s ‘policy’ to reunite then why not take the opportunity to enshrine that commitment in legislation? I look forward to hearing the govt explanation.

I, for one, am disappointed that this amendment wasn’t passed. Genuinely feel the most humane thing to do is resettle unaccompanied child refugees with family members that have already achieved settled status in the U.K.

But that requires compassion. Not a Tory strong point, that. Still, disheartening that so many of our MPs take that attitude, as with refusing to give EU nationals official, concrete proof that they're settled here. Windrush 2.0 on the way.
